Propagating the message of Honor and Honoring to both Singaporean and non-Singaporean audiences

In 2014, Siong Guan Lim founded Honour Singapore, a non-profit charity with a mission to promote a culture of “honour and honouring” for the well-being of Singapore. The inaugural Honour International Symposium was held in 2016, with 280 guests and 100 delegates in attendance. Speakers and participants at the inaugural Symposium came from several countries and presented their insights on the effective practice of honor in business, leadership, family, and life. With the support of this $40,000 grant, Mr. Lim plans to hold the second Honour International Symposium from July 19-20, 2018 in Singapore. The theme for this Symposium will be “Be the Best You Can Be.” There will be four panel discussions focused on encouraging: (1) people to be the best they can be according to their talents and abilities; (2) families to be the best they can be; (3) leaders to be the best they can be; and (4) businesses and organizations to be the best they can be. The three subthemes include honoring others (having an other-oriented focus), honoring your world (influencing the world for the good), and honoring yourself (realizing your full potential). The primary output of this project will be support for ten international delegates to attend the Symposium. The primary outcome of this project will be the creation of 3-5 “honour chapters” in which participants commit to actively promote honor within their businesses and social circles, and that meet periodically to share practices and experiences, and encourage each other with ideas and results.
