On August 16, 2024, the John Templeton Foundation closed the first stage of its 2024 Funding Cycle and received 3,037 initial requests for $2.16 billion in funding. These requests came from applicants located in 113 different countries.

“We value the strong interest in our mission and the effort that goes into preparing an application,” said Matthew Walhout, Vice President and Chief Programs Officer. “We carefully consider each application and assess its potential impact and alignment with our goals and the philanthropic vision of our founder, Sir John Templeton.”

After initial review to remove requests not aligned with Sir John’s philanthropic vision, approximately 1,900 requests remained. The Foundation issued invitations to submit a full proposal to 148 applicants, or approximately 12.5% of the requests.
