Global Citizens in the Making is an international character and values program run by Character Scotland and focuses around the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014. The project has two strands. The first uses a specially designed poster that enables young people aged 10-15 to develop self-awareness and self-knowledge, research an inspirational figure embodying the spirit of humanity, and translate this inspiration into their own aspirations for the future. They also source key quotations and maxims, which were very important to Sir John Templeton. Our feedback shows that the results for pupils are empowering and transformative. They are celebrated at international awards ceremonies with speakers like Olympic Gold Medallist Katherine Grainger CBE. The second strand is the creation of a Character Development Network in Scotland, bringing together key organizations working with young people. The results of both strands will raise the profile of character and values education in Scotland and the Commonwealth. The culmination of the project will be an international conference on Character and the Commonwealth in 2015. Character Scotland works closely with the Jubilee Centre at the University of Birmingham.
