The Institute on Religion in an Age of Science (IRAS) seeks support from the John Templeton Foundation for the establishment of a new joint conference sponsored annually by IRAS and the Center for Theology and the Natural Sciences (CTNS). IRAS and CTNS are among the premier organizations in the United States concerned with emerging issues in science and religion. The proposed conference would be held in mid-February of each year in Berkeley, California. The primary purpose of the conference is the creation of a venue where young scholars can interact with established scholars in the broad areas of science, religion and technology. Young scholars (graduate students, post-docs and untenured faculty) would benefit by presenting their ideas and receiving constructive feedback from established scholars while the latter would benefit by being introduced to creative new ideas developed by the former. While a similar conference exists in Europe, no such venue currently exists in the United States. Hence, our intention is that this joint conference would build the field nationally, eventually becoming the premier meeting of its type in the United States.
