A planning meeting in Ghana will convene 20 eminent African leaders (church ministry, higher education, theology, philosophy, and social and natural sciences) with grant officers from the John Templeton Foundation. As a result of the meeting, both parties will gain a stronger understanding of the various questions, projects, institutions, and people that would be likely to help them achieve their respective goals. The goal is to develop a better understanding of the most strategic opportunities for future grant-making in sub-Saharan Africa, such as the under-explored success of free enterprise in areas where it has been nurtured and the application of old virtues to new situations.
