The Hispanic faith community historically struggles to embrace the truths of science within the church context. The Ciencia, Fe Y Esperanza project seeks to address head-on the sense of conflict between science and faith in the Hispanic church community. A national Leadership Coalition of scientists, theologians, pastors, and others will be convened to identify strategies for engagement around these difficult issues. The project will then help pastors in the Greater Philadelphia region create a sacred and safe space to begin engaging their parishioners about the importance of scientific knowledge for people of faith. By the end of the project, education and dialogue about science and faith will be piloted throughout the regional Hispanic faith community, and other markets around the country will be assessed for program replication.
