Zachary Ugolnik

Director, Religion, Science, & Society

Dr. Zachary Ugolnik is the Director of Religion, Science, and Society at the John Templeton Foundation. In this role, he is responsible for the development and implementation of grants in the Religion, Science, and Society portfolio.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Dr. Ugolnik served as Program Director at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS) at Stanford University where he oversaw the development, management, and evaluation of interdisciplinary initiatives run by the Center. Previously, he also served as Assistant Professor of Religion at Mount Allison University and a Mellon Interdisciplinary Fellow at the Center for Innovative Theory and Empirics (INCITE) at Columbia University. Zack earned his Ph.D. in Religion from Columbia University, his Master of Theological Studies from Harvard University, and his B.A. in Religion and International Relations from Syracuse University. His book on religious imagery and self-formation is forthcoming with Fordham University Press. He has co-edited and authored scholarly articles in outlets such as Dædalus, The Journal of Religion, Religion & Literature, and Harvard Divinity Bulletin.
