Greg Wolcott, Ph.D.

Director, Individual Freedom and Free Markets

Gregory (Greg) Wolcott is the Director, Individual Freedom and Free Markets at the John Templeton Foundation, where he works with scholars and practitioners pursuing projects that explore classical liberal principles and their applications. He is interested in asking how freedom might foster space for people to flourish both as individuals and as members of communities, and in his own work he has examined this question by focusing on business and entrepreneurship, the moral foundations of markets, virtues and vices, the possibility of vocations, and the insights of thinkers such as Aristotle, Plato, Adam Smith, F.A. Hayek, Deirdre McCloskey, and Edmund Phelps, among others.

Greg previously served as a faculty liaison and program director at the Institute for Humane Studies at George Mason University. He has also taught philosophy at the undergraduate and graduate level at various colleges and universities, including Saint Mary’s College of California where he was an Assistant Professor of Business Ethics in the Department of Organizations and Responsible Business. He obtained his PhD in philosophy from Loyola University Chicago and his BA in philosophy from The Catholic University of America. Greg has published scholarly articles and reviews in outlets such as the Journal of Business Ethics, Business Ethics: European Review, Business Ethics Quarterly, Journal of Applied Philosophy, and Reason Papers.
