How to promote the gathering of evidence regarding character development in Latin American schools? Building on a 10-year experience working with outstanding teachers across the region, this project seeks to train these teachers further to collect evidence of their own success within classrooms. In particular, this project will train at least 20 Latin American Global Teacher Prize Ambassadors (GTPAs), who are part of a community of the finest school teachers around the world, in evidence-based practices to support their classroom work and to make them scalable throughout the region. Teachers will be trained to perform action research, with more profound knowledge on effective teacher practice and applied practice to develop their students’ character.
By means of an online course, the team will be working with participants on the use of measuring and assessment tools with which to collect evidence on the character development and leadership among their students. Teachers will be expected to implement these tools to gather evidence with the goal of sharing their results on a final report. This report will become the guiding document for all future implementations of the program.
Finally, the project team will present the final comparative report on a regional event. The event will be held within the framework of our fifth edition of “Transforming Schools through Leadership and Innovation”, one of our annual conferences. This will allow us to produce knowledge about character ́s development applied research and spread all these findings to educational stakeholders throughout the region. As well, the project team will boost the publication through several educational academic journals.
