Planning Grant for Theologically Sensitive Human Science

In the spirit of intellectual humility, and a desire to narrow the gulf between theological and scientific domains, we will develop a broad strategy for funding bodies (such as JTF, TWCF, and TRT) and key individuals and organizations to support broader and deeper theological engagement on the part of human science professionals. With listening as our primary tool, we’ll begin a discovery phase of both formal and informal meetings. This phase will teach us what activities and strategies should be adopted to activate sustained, meaningful engagement in theology from human scientists (e.g., anthropologists, behavioral ecologists, cognitive scientists, neuroscientists, psychologists, sociologists). The end phases of the project will produce an informed strategy document out of which we will advocate for a shared vision, collaborations, and partnership with other strategic organizations. Based on this shared vision and strategy we will make recommendations for the next stages of work in this area for years to come, likely including a large-scale grant proposal.
