This project is a pilot that will precede what we hope will be a series of campaigns providing evidence that transcendence and purpose when viewed through the lens of science, is not just possible but eminently reasonable. For this project, the Magis Center will develop and implement a campaign aimed at reconciling how an evolutionary process that is dependent upon highly improbable chance events could be reconciled with underlying purpose or order. During the 4-month digital marketing campaign an estimated 750,000 social media users will view a short, entertaining, but thought-provoking video. Furthermore, we expect that a subset of these viewers (200,000) will engage more deeply with our content.
The campaign will include a suite of video, audio and written materials that (1) stimulate curiosity and (2) present academically rigorous content in accessible and engaging formats. It will begin by presenting credible and persuasive evidence for purposeful evolution to social media users via the above-mentioned social media video. This video will extend an invitation to viewers to “go deeper”. For those who accept that invitation, we will provide a 15-minute documentary, a series of podcasts, and links to additional information. During the campaign period, these materials will be housed on a themed landing page. Upon conclusion of the campaign, they will become part of a virtual faith and reason library on our Magis Center Website.
We have assembled a team of high caliber academics, led by philosopher, Fr. Robert Spitzer, biologist, Dr. Daniel Kuebler, and physicist, Dr. Stephen Barr. We also have leaders in market research, video and audio production, social media, digital marketing, press relations, and data analytics. Together, we aim to show the meaning and purpose that we believe exists within the universe and that we believe is a requisite step towards finding meaning and purpose in our lives.
