Restructuring Our Grant-Making System
Dear Potential Grantee of the John Templeton Foundation:
We are delighted that you are taking the time to get to know us. Our high aspirations for the Foundation can be achieved only through the vision, passion, and action of extraordinary grantees around the world. We are in the business of actively "talent-scouting" for people and projects of exceptional promise in our funding areas.
On December 15, 2008, the Foundation began a nine-month initiative to restructure its grant-making system. Our overarching objective is to align our grant-making system more fully with the Foundation’s long-range strategic goals, such as greater reliance on the “logics of competition” to review and award new grants and funding initiatives.
Our restructuring initiative has several immediate implications for those seeking funding from the Foundation. After Friday, January 16, 2009, the Foundation will not be accepting new requests for funding until we announce our new grant-making calendar in September 2009. If you did not submit an Online Funding Inquiry by January 16, 2009, we will be unable to review your proposal idea until the fall of 2009.

We appreciate your interest in the John Templeton Foundation’s mission and your patience during this period of transition.
Sincerely yours,
John M. Templeton, Jr., M.D.
